nintendo as a company are entirely apolitical unless it suits them.

the only brown man in hyrule being evil and feared and hated, with the main goals of most of the games being to eradicate him for good, isnt political, apparently.

the main enemy of skyward sword being a flamboyant gay-coded man who is sadistic and revolting to the wholesome white lad protagonist isnt political. no statements to be made here.

the only dark-skinned woman of colour in ARMS being hypersexualized with a completely unnecessary emphasis on her ass at all times is JUST a coincidence, and has nothing to do with how nintendo feel about brown and black women! never mind how it falls completely in line with their other portrayals of brown and black women since the 90s. it’s not political.

but a girl mii marrying another girl mii? that’s a political statement! we can’t have that! we might upset someone! link can’t be a girl because blaaaaagh i dont fucking know the triforce hates identity politics. a brown or black character presented as something other than evil and terrifying or oversexualized? what is this, 1984?

Nintendo only want people to smile! :) (unless you’re not white, a girl, gay or transgender. then you’re too political.)

don’t forget the association of dark skinned characters and fire/aggressiveness in even recent games like fates and sun/moon. fe is especially guilty of both the demonization of dark skinned women and whitewashing of obviously nonwhite groups through out the game

you ever see a good post and just know you shouldnt look through the notes on it

ALl i have to say is Rinkah from fire emblem fates lol.

“dark skinned characters and fire/aggressiveness… sun/moon” kiawe? we’re talking about kiawe? the guy who put on a silly trial that essentially ammounted to a spot the difference but you are incapable of messing up? like, um, yea he’s assosiated with fire, but that’s A FUCKING THING in hawai’i that yes, i know, is mostly a show just put on for tourists but it still stems from a local tradition like what the fuck are YOU on @innocentsin ? and this whole thing about olivia being sexualized? have you not SEEN Kukui, who has FAR MORE APPEARANCES and the MALE SWIMMERS who strike a VERY sexualized flexing pose? like seriously, play the damn games you’re gonna complain about before spouting bullshit like this.

what do they have to do with any of this im still right

“don’t forget the association of dark skinned characters and fire/aggressiveness in even recent games like fates and sun/moon”

kiawe is not aggressive at all. none of the dark skinned characters in sun and moon (hau, olivia) are. the most aggressive characters are light skinned/white. so what are you talking about.

also giving dark skinned characters a fire motif isn’t racist, especially in a franchise when characters are always given elemental motifs. in the recent games, flannery (oras) and malva (xy) are associated with fire. are they dark skinned?

so you’re wrong. did you just glance at the character art lol.

fire is associated with aggressiveness and having the darkest skinned character in the game representing it is, suprise, racist. relating a black person and aggressiveness is racist. rinkah from fates is another, more clear example of this. trying to bring other characters in this isn’t gonna excuse all the other shit nintendo has done

fire is not associated with aggressiveness in pokemon. it’s just a type. each trainer of all the types have varied personalities like.

and having a dark skinned fire type trainer isn’t racist when they make dark skinned trainers of all types. and kiawe isn’t aggressive at all. like at all. why do you keep implying that.

and im comparing other characters from pokemon because it shows your cherrypicking and ignoring the whole damn franchise. you can’t say it’s racist when context proves otherwise. and don’t lecture me, a black person, about antiblack racism. stop.

Hey whaddup, so like, idk but I’m pretty sure Kiawe is meant to be Polynesian? (or like at least partially Polynesian?) So like, hi, I’m Polynesian (NZ Maori) and fire is kinda like, a THING here?? Because, here’s neat-o little detail, a GOOD CHUNK of the islands that make up Polynesia are on that ol’ ring of fire (which is, y’know, around the pacific, hence pacific islands yada yada) sooooo a LOT of us have fuck load of volcanoes either ON or fairly damn close by our respective islands. Fire features pretty heavily in our cultures various stories (i.e Maui stealing fire from the underworld/his aunty/which ever variation of the story your island uses), ect, bc like shit, our lands were forged by it (Volcanic stone and ash is a huge part of like, art and agriculture). I mean if anything it’s a bit tacky? The fire dancing bit is at least. But it’s a reoccurring Polynesian motif for a reason???

i’m glad discussions of sexualizing mlm are becoming more popular in fandom spaces because it really really bothers me

like… it’s not “empowering” for a straight woman to discover her sexuality through fetishizing mlm because she’s still in a position of privilege over them

and i’ve had so many straight men invade fandom spaces for wlw to talk about femslash and it always feels creepy and predatory so like, im glad the inverse is being addressed

I feel for her so much.
